China, 10 March 2026 – Vietnam U20 Women’s National Team played their first friendly match during their training camp in China on the afternoon of March 10, as part of preparations for the 2026 AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup.
Facing the Beijing Women’s Youth Team, a side known for their strong physical presence and good fitness levels, the young Vietnamese players entered the match with confidence and a proactive approach. From the opening minutes, Vietnam attempted to organize their gameplay carefully, maintaining a compact defensive structure while also looking for opportunities to launch attacking moves. Despite the physical advantage of the opposition, the Vietnamese players showed determination and discipline in maintaining their tactical shape.
However, the home side managed to capitalize on a key moment in the first half. Taking advantage of a defensive lapse, the Beijing youth team successfully converted one of their opportunities to score the opening goal, giving them a 1–0 lead before halftime. The goal placed additional pressure on the Vietnamese squad, who continued to work hard to regain control of the match.
In the second half, Vietnam U20 Women pushed their lines higher and increased the intensity of their attacks in search of an equalizer. Head coach Okiyama Masahiko encouraged his players to maintain possession and move the ball quickly to create openings in the opponent’s defense. Several promising attacking situations were created, but the Vietnamese forwards were unable to find the finishing touch against a well-organized Beijing defense.
Despite their persistent efforts and improved attacking rhythm after the break, Vietnam could not break through the opposition’s backline. The match ultimately ended with a narrow 1–0 victory for the Beijing Women’s Youth Team.
Although the result did not go in their favor, the friendly match provided valuable experience for the Vietnamese players as they continue to build cohesion and improve their tactical understanding ahead of the continental tournament.
According to the training schedule, the Vietnam U20 Women’s National Team will continue their preparation with two additional friendly matches in the coming days. On March 12, the team will face a women’s club from South Korea, before playing another friendly against a Chinese women’s club on March 14. These matches are expected to help the coaching staff further evaluate the squad and fine-tune their strategies ahead of the 2026 AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup.
