Coach Troussier has not resigned after the historic defeat to Indonesia

In a recent press conference, Head Coach Philippe Troussier addressed questions regarding his potential resignation with a strong emphasis on respect and timing. Troussier firmly stated, “This is a disrespectful question. Now is not the time to discuss this matter; we should focus on the players’ performance. My future will be discussed at another time. Tomorrow, I will have a conversation with the Vietnam Football Federation.”

Discussing the latest match, Troussier praised the Vietnamese team’s effort and technical performance. He highlighted that the Vietnam national team created over 10 dangerous scoring opportunities but lamented the lack of precision in their final plays. Troussier believes the outcome wasn’t due to bad luck or randomness but praised the spirit, will, and tactical discipline displayed from the start to the end of the match. He remarked, “With today’s game dynamics, if Vietnam had scored at any moment, the situation would have been different.”

Regarding Vietnam’s dwindling chances in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers, Troussier remains hopeful. “Speaking of Vietnam’s current situation, there are still two matches left, and a maximum of 6 points can be earned. In football, anything is possible, so Vietnam still has a chance to advance.”

When asked about not utilizing star player Quang Hai, Troussier explained that as the head coach, the decision on who plays and the tactics employed is his prerogative. “Currently, I have about 25 players at my disposal. Depending on the opponent, we will adopt suitable tactics and personnel.”

Troussier’s comments reflect a commitment to evaluating and improving Vietnam’s performance on the international stage, with a focus on the present and future matches rather than his personal career. The discussion with the Vietnam Football Federation may provide further insights into Vietnam’s strategy and Troussier’s role in shaping the future of Vietnamese football.
