Dinh Bac unlikely to return for the 2024 AFC U23 Asian Cup

In a disappointing update for U23 Vietnam fans, striker Nguyen Dinh Bac has revealed that he is unlikely to return to play in the U23 Asian Cup 2024.

During the 6th minute of the opening match against U23 Kuwait on the evening of April 17th, Dinh Bac sustained an ankle injury following a tackle attempt.

Despite his efforts to continue playing, he was only able to persist for an additional three minutes before signaling for a substitution. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan subsequently replaced him with Van Truong.

By the afternoon of April 18th, Dinh Bac updated his personal page regarding his injury, stating that the damage was more severe than initially expected and almost certainly sidelines him for the remainder of the U23 Asian Cup 2024. His absence represents a significant loss for U23 Vietnam, as he is one of the most experienced players on the team, despite being only 20 years old.

Dinh Bac’s injury comes at a challenging time in his career. Prior to participating in the U23 Asian Cup 2024, he had been irregularly featured in the V-League due to non-technical issues.

In addition to Dinh Bac’s absence, U23 Vietnam will also be without central defender Ngoc Thang for the next two matches due to suspension. Furthermore, forward Quoc Viet is dealing with fitness issues, leaving his availability for the upcoming match against Malaysia uncertain. This series of setbacks poses additional challenges for U23 Vietnam as they aim to build on their promising start at the tournament.
