Coach Diego Giustozzi expressed strong confidence in the Vietnam Futsal team’s ability to secure a spot at the upcoming Futsal World Cup after their performance in the Asian Futsal Championship 2024. Despite a narrow 2-1 loss to Thailand on April 21, Vietnam advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament, thanks to a superior goal difference over Myanmar, with both teams finishing the group stage on four points.
Post-match, the Argentinian coach was optimistic about Vietnam’s prospects. “Today, we were on par with Thailand, who had the advantage of playing at home with their supporters. We did everything we could to achieve our goal. I’m pleased with each player’s performance in our team. We deserved at least a draw, if not a win today,” Giustozzi said.
He added, “We’ve surpassed our first objective, which was to make it to the quarterfinals. Now, it’s a different round and a different opponent. We don’t yet know who we will face, but there are many opportunities ahead, possibly even a play-off round. I’m very confident that the Vietnam Futsal team will continue to qualify for the World Cup.”
Giustozzi’s confidence stems not only from the team’s initial target of reaching the quarterfinals but also from the players’ form shown during the group stage. “Before the tournament, I was quite confident, and after three group matches and seeing the level of performance from the players, my confidence has only increased,” he remarked.
Vietnam’s journey continues as they prepare to face the top team from Group B in the quarterfinals scheduled for 9 PM on April 24th. The coach and his squad are now focusing on their strategy for the upcoming matches, hoping to extend their successful campaign and secure a third consecutive appearance at the Futsal World Cup.
