Midfielder Van Truong is confident that U23 Vietnam will overcome Uzbekistan

As U23 Vietnam prepares for a crucial match against U23 Uzbekistan, midfielder Nguyen Van Truong shares insights into the team’s readiness and mindset. The game, set for 10:30 PM on April 23rd, is not just another fixture but a decisive battle for the top spot in Group D at the U23 Asian Cup 2024.

Following back-to-back victories, including a recent 2-0 win against U23 Malaysia, U23 Vietnam has secured early qualification for the quarterfinals, but the upcoming match against Uzbekistan will determine who leads the group. Both teams are currently tied with six points, but Uzbekistan edges out Vietnam with superior secondary stats.

Speaking from the training ground, Nguyen Van Truong expressed the team’s high spirits and focused mindset. “After the win over Malaysia, everyone was overjoyed, but we quickly regained our focus,” said Truong, a key player for Vietnam and a creative force in midfield, thanks to his role linking defense and attack.

Truong, who plays for Hanoi FC, highlighted the significant challenge posed by U23 Uzbekistan, acknowledging their strength but also expressing confidence in Vietnam’s preparation and teamwork. “Every match is crucial, and we always step onto the field with the highest determination. Uzbekistan is a strong team, but I believe it will be a competitive and exciting game,” he stated.

The midfielder also reassured fans about the team’s health, noting that players dealing with minor injuries or illnesses are recovering well and striving to return for the upcoming games.

With the quarterfinal spot secured, Coach Hoang Anh Tuan’s men look to not only assert their dominance in the group but also set the tone for the knockout stages. The match against Uzbekistan isn’t just about securing first place—it’s also a chance for U23 Vietnam to measure their progress against one of the tournament’s best teams.
