In a historic move, FIFA has officially released the first-ever global rankings for male and female futsal teams, marking a significant milestone for the sport. The Vietnam women’s futsal team has achieved an impressive 13th place in these inaugural rankings.
Despite the world of futsal flourishing since the inception of its World Cup in 1989, FIFA had never before issued global rankings for the sport. Fans previously had to rely on unofficial rankings from futsal-focused websites to track international standings. This change brings a new level of recognition and professionalism to the sport.
As of May 6th, the Vietnam men’s futsal team has been ranked 33rd out of 139 rated teams. Meanwhile, the women’s team stands out in 13th place among 69 ranked teams. This high ranking reflects the strong performance of the Vietnam women’s team on the international stage since 2015, the period FIFA considered for this initial ranking.

The Vietnam women’s futsal team has shown consistent excellence over the years, securing the fourth position at the 2018 Asian Women’s Futsal Championship and earning silver medals at two SEA Games events.
The announcement comes as FIFA plans to hold the first Women’s Futsal World Cup in 2025. The Vietnam women’s team is well-positioned to qualify for this upcoming tournament, provided they continue to perform well in future Asian Futsal Championships.
This development is a significant boost for futsal in Vietnam, particularly for the women’s team, as it brings increased visibility and recognition to their achievements and the sport as a whole. Fans and players alike can now track their progress on a globally recognized scale, heightening anticipation for upcoming competitions and enhancing the profile of futsal in Vietnam and beyond.
