Vietnam won the silver medal at the 2024 Asian Gymnastics Championship

At the 2024 Asian Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Championship in Uzbekistan, Nguyen Van Khanh Phong delivered an outstanding performance, securing a silver medal in the rings event.

Despite missing out on qualifying for the Paris Olympics, the Vietnamese men’s gymnastics team remained determined to excel at the Asian Championship, held from May 16 to 19. Nguyen Van Khanh Phong led the way, finishing the rings event qualifiers with an impressive score of 14.566 points, earning him a spot in the finals.

His teammate, Trinh Hai Khang, also performed admirably, securing fifth place in the vault qualifiers with a score of 14.333 points, thereby qualifying for the finals. Additionally, Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien secured a place in the pommel horse finals.

On May 18, the finals brought positive results for the Vietnamese gymnasts. Nguyen Van Khanh Phong excelled in the rings event, finishing second with a score of 14.166 points, narrowly missing the gold to China’s Yin De Hang. According to head coach Truong Minh Sang, Khanh Phong executed his routine well but was bested by the exceptional performance of his Chinese competitor.

While the other two Vietnamese gymnasts did not secure medals, they achieved commendable placements. Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien finished fourth in the pommel horse event, and Trinh Hai Khang placed fifth in the vault event.

These results highlight the resilience and skill of the Vietnamese gymnasts, who continue to strive for excellence despite facing tough competition. Nguyen Van Khanh Phong’s silver medal is a testament to his hard work and dedication, adding to Vietnam’s growing reputation in the field of gymnastics.
