On August 15, 2024, Vietnam Television (VTV), the People’s Committee of Ninh Binh Province, and the Vietnam Volleyball Federation, in collaboration with Usports, officially announced the 2024 VTV Ferroli International Women’s Volleyball Cup.
First held in 2004, the VTV Cup has established itself as a prestigious tournament known for its high-level competition and emotional intensity. This year, the VTV Ferroli Cup 2024 will be hosted in Ninh Binh Province, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex’s recognition as a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage site. The event also aligns with VTV’s celebration of 54 years since its first television broadcast on September 7, 1970. As such, the VTV Ferroli Cup 2024 will not only showcase top-notch sports but also serve as a meaningful cultural and sporting event. It offers the Vietnam women’s national volleyball team a valuable opportunity to compete and engage with some of the strongest teams in Asia and beyond, embodying the tournament’s theme, “Proud to Shine.”
The VTV Ferroli International Women’s Volleyball Cup 2024 will take place from August 24 to August 31, 2024, at the Ninh Binh Provincial Sports Arena. The tournament features eight teams, including Henan (China), Aranmare (Japan), Kuanysh (Kazakhstan), Expressway (South Korea), Paint Masters (Philippines), Korabelka (Russia), King Whale Taipei (Chinese Taipei), and the Vietnam national team. These teams represent countries with strong volleyball traditions, promising exciting and competitive matches.
The eight teams will be divided into two groups, competing in a round-robin format to determine the rankings. In the quarterfinals, teams will play cross-group matches to decide the semifinalists, finalists, and placement matches.
The year 2023 marked a breakthrough for Vietnamese women’s volleyball, with impressive achievements in various tournaments: champions of the 2023 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship, champions of the 2023 AVC Challenge Cup, silver medalists at the 32nd SEA Games, qualification for the FIVB Challenger Cup and FIVB Women’s Club World Championship, top four finishes in the 2023 Asian Championship and the 19th Asian Games, runners-up at the 2023 SEA V.League, and champions of the 2023 VTV Cup. Most recently, Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team secured second place in two stages of the SEA V.League in Vietnam and Thailand. As they enter the VTV Ferroli Cup 2024, the Vietnam national team aims to maintain their strong lineup and form, with the goal of successfully defending their title.
Building on the success of 2023, the VTV Ferroli Cup 2024 will continue to utilize Video Challenge Eyes technology to support referees and ensure fairness in all matches.
The total prize pool for the VTV Ferroli Cup 2024 is nearly $32,000, including six team awards and nine individual awards. Additionally, if the Vietnam national team wins the championship, sponsor Rapido (a German-origin brand acquired by the Ferroli Group in 2001) will award the entire team, including players and coaching staff, gift vouchers valued between 200 million VND and 400 million VND (200 million VND if they reach the final, and an additional 200 million VND for winning the championship).
