As Hanoi Police FC prepares to face Singapore’s Lion City Sailors (LCS) in a crucial Shopee Cup 2024/2025 fixture, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Both teams are eyeing a positive result to solidify their positions in the tournament. The pre-match press conference provided insights into each team’s strategies and mindset heading into this highly anticipated encounter.

Aleksandar Rankovic: “This Will Be a Tough Match”

Lion City Sailors’ head coach, Aleksandar Rankovic, acknowledged the strength of their Vietnamese opponents, Hanoi Police FC, noting that getting points in the upcoming match will be a significant challenge.

“I know it will be hard to earn points tomorrow. CAHN (Hanoi Police FC) is a strong opponent,” Rankovic admitted. “They play a direct style and have many talented players. I believe they are the strongest team in the group.” He went on to express his hopes for a favorable result despite the difficulty.

Rankovic also highlighted the importance of their Vietnamese team leader, a figure he affectionately referred to as “Mama.” “She is a crucial part of our team, providing a psychological advantage. Her experience and understanding of Vietnamese football are also invaluable to us,” he added.

When asked about the weather conditions in Hanoi, Rankovic dismissed concerns, stating that the climate is quite similar to Singapore’s. “The weather won’t be a problem for us,” he said confidently.

Izwan Mahbud: “We’re Ready for the Challenge”

Lion City Sailors’ goalkeeper, Izwan Mahbud, echoed his coach’s sentiments regarding Hanoi Police FC’s strength but remained optimistic about his team’s chances. “CAHN is a strong opponent, but we are ready. Our goal is to achieve a favorable result, which means earning at least one point,” Mahbud said.

He also singled out star player Nguyen Quang Hai as a key threat, noting his impact on the field. However, Mahbud stressed that every attacking player in Hanoi Police FC poses a danger. “We have tactical plans in place to counter their attack,” he reassured the media.

Mano Polking: “The Objective is Three Points”

Hanoi Police FC coach Mano Polking set the tone for the match, emphasizing that his team is aiming for all three points to boost their chances of advancing to the semifinals. “This is a very important game. Our goal is to win and move closer to the semifinals,” Polking stated. “We started the tournament well, and we’re playing at home again, which gives us an extra push.”

However, Polking acknowledged the absence of key player Alan and the need to adjust the lineup accordingly. He mentioned that players like Leo Artur, Dinh Bac, and Van Do will have to step up, but he remains confident in their quality. “It’s only a matter of time before they deliver,” he said.

Polking also provided updates on the recovery of Dinh Trong and Bui Hoang Viet Anh, who are expected to return after the upcoming FIFA Days. “They’re recovering well, but they won’t be ready for tomorrow’s match,” Polking confirmed.

The coach praised the Shopee Cup for providing valuable experience against strong international opponents. “Playing in this competition helps us a lot. We’re not happy with just one point from two matches, but it’s still early to draw conclusions,” he said.

Polking concluded by recognizing LCS as a formidable opponent, noting their quality foreign players and strong performance in the Singapore Premier League. However, he expressed great belief in his team’s ability to take on the challenge and hoped for strong support from the Hanoi Police FC fans. “We have great confidence in ourselves, and I hope the fans will come out to support us. We’re aiming to put on a quality match for everyone.”

Nguyen Quang Hai: “Home Advantage is a Huge Motivation”

Vietnamese star Nguyen Quang Hai emphasized the importance of playing at home, saying, “We’ve prepared well, and playing at home is a huge motivation for the entire team.” He also acknowledged the need for young players like Van Do and Dinh Bac to work harder, but stressed that the team is united in supporting their development.

When asked about the challenges of competing in multiple tournaments, Quang Hai responded confidently, “The more tournaments we play, the better. There’s no problem with that.”

As Hanoi Police FC gears up for the match, Quang Hai assured fans that the team will give their all, both mentally and physically. “The key is to play to our potential and give 100%. For me, every time I step on the field, I give my best effort,” he concluded.

With both teams set to clash, all eyes will be on the field as they fight for critical points in the Shopee Cup 2024/2025. Fans of both sides can expect an intense and thrilling encounter.
