Vietnam’s women’s futsal team claimed a convincing victory at the 2024 NSDF Women’s Futsal Championship after a 2-2 draw against Thailand in the final match on September 28.
Entering the final game against the host team, Vietnam had won all three of their previous matches, including a dominant 3-0 win over China. Needing only a draw to secure the championship, Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang’s squad played with focus and determination.
Thailand, knowing they had to win, started aggressively. With key players like Sasiprapa Suksen (goalkeeper), Praeploy Huajaiphet, Natthamon Atkla, Darika Pianphayun, and Areeya Saetien, coach Suraphong Plaiyuwong’s side pushed hard from the start, aiming to strike early. In the 6th minute, Saengrawee set up Jenjira Buppha for a clear chance, but goalkeeper Thuy Linh made an excellent save to deny Thailand the opening goal.
Vietnam responded ten minutes later when Nguyen Thanh Hang’s deflected shot off Jiraprapa Nimrattanasingh put them ahead 1-0, relieving the pressure from Thailand’s early dominance. However, Thailand equalized in the 15th minute after a well-executed set piece.
Despite this, Vietnam quickly regained the lead just before halftime. Thanh Hang finished off a fast counterattack with a powerful strike, putting Vietnam up 2-1.
In the second half, Vietnam adopted a solid defensive approach, expertly maintaining their shape and covering spaces to stifle Thailand’s attacks. Although Thailand managed to score a late equalizer in the final moments, the 2-2 draw was enough for Vietnam to secure the championship.
Vietnam finished the tournament with 10 points from four matches, having defeated Taiwan (4-2), Indonesia (5-1), and China (3-0), in addition to the draw with Thailand. Scoring 14 goals across the tournament, the Vietnamese women’s futsal team displayed remarkable improvement and earned their championship title in style.
