Midfielder Chau Ngoc Quang, currently playing for Hoang Anh Gia Lai, is determined to make an impression on head coach Kim Sang Sik during the Vietnamese national team’s preparation for the upcoming international friendly against India as part of the FIFA Days in October 2024.
On October 6, the national team resumed training, focusing on tactical drills and improving coordination between the different lines of play. This training session is part of the team’s preparation for the match against India, scheduled for October 12 at Thien Truong Stadium.
Among the players called up for this camp, Chau Ngoc Quang is a notable returnee after showcasing strong performances for Hoang Anh Gia Lai during the early rounds of V-League 2024/25. This marks his first call-up to the national team since the FIFA Days in June 2023.
Speaking to the media ahead of the training session, Ngoc Quang expressed his eagerness to quickly adapt to the playing style under coach Kim Sang Sik. “It’s been over a year since I last joined the national team, and this is my first time working with coach Kim Sang Sik. I need to quickly adjust to the team’s style of play,” said the midfielder.
Chau Ngoc Quang has been in excellent form for Hoang Anh Gia Lai, scoring two goals in four matches this season. He also acknowledged the competition for a place in the national team lineup, particularly in a squad that includes prominent players like Quang Hai and Van Toan. “I know the position I play is filled with standout names like Quang Hai and Van Toan. I don’t set specific goals to compete with them, but whenever I train or get the chance to play, I always give my best effort. The evaluation and decision-making are up to the head coach,” he stated.
As part of their preparation, the national team will have a practice match against Nam Dinh FC on October 9. To support the coaching staff’s evaluation process, there will be no restrictions on player substitutions, allowing coach Kim Sang Sik to fully assess the squad and finalize the best lineup for the friendly against India, while also looking ahead to the upcoming 2024 AFF Championship at the end of the year.
On the morning of October 11, the national team will travel to Nam Dinh and have a familiarization training session at Thien Truong Stadium later that afternoon.
