Vietnam women’s futsal team is closing in on the top 10 in the world rankings

Vietnam women’s futsal team has taken a significant step toward breaking into the top 10 in the world rankings, as they reached 11th place on the latest FIFA futsal rankings, which were released on the evening of October 11. This marks an important milestone for the team, which has shown consistent improvement over the past few months.

FIFA published its latest futsal rankings for both men’s and women’s national teams worldwide. This is the second update in 2024, with the previous one being released in May. The rankings provide a comprehensive look at the performance and progress of futsal teams across the globe.

The Vietnam women’s futsal team moved up two places from 13th to 11th thanks to their strong performance over the past five months. During this period, the team went unbeaten in seven matches, securing four wins and three draws. This impressive streak has helped them gain valuable points, allowing them to climb the rankings. They now sit just 19 points behind Japan, who currently hold the 10th spot in the world rankings.

In the Asian rankings, the Vietnam women’s futsal team has also made strides. They are currently ranked fourth in Asia, behind some of the continent’s futsal powerhouses. Thailand is ranked 6th in the world and remains the highest-ranked Asian team, followed by Iran in 9th place and Japan in 10th. Vietnam’s rise to 11th place puts them in a strong position as they prepare for future competitions.

As a result of this ranking, the Vietnam women’s futsal team will be seeded in Pot 1 for the upcoming 2025 AFC Women’s Futsal Championship qualifiers. The draw for this important tournament is scheduled for October 17, and being placed in Pot 1 will give Vietnam a favorable position in the qualification process. This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang and his team as they aim to continue their success on the international stage.

While the women’s team has been on an upward trajectory, the Vietnam men’s futsal team has seen a slight drop in the latest rankings. The men’s team fell one place to 34th in the world. This drop is not unexpected, as the team has not played any official matches in the past five months. Despite this, the team remains competitive and will look to regain momentum in upcoming tournaments under coach Diego Giustozzi.

The recent success of the women’s futsal team highlights the growing strength of futsal in Vietnam. As the team continues to develop, there is optimism that they can break into the top 10 in the world and compete at the highest level in Asia. With the upcoming AFC Women’s Futsal Championship qualifiers on the horizon, the Vietnam women’s futsal team will be looking to build on their recent achievements and make a strong push for further success.
