In a thrilling match on November 14, 2024, at Hang Day Stadium, Hanoi FC emerged victorious over Binh Duong with a narrow 1-0 win, thanks to a single goal created by captain Nguyen Van Quyet’s assist to Nguyen Hai Long. This win ended Hanoi FC’s four-game drawing streak and lifted them to third place in the V-League standings.
Before the match, Hanoi FC honored Van Quyet for his record-breaking achievement as the highest-scoring domestic player in V-League history with 117 goals over 15 seasons. The club presented him with a token prize of 100 million VND, celebrating his contribution to Vietnamese football with 288 appearances spanning his time with The Cong (2008-2010) and Hanoi FC (2010-present).
Van Quyet’s influence on the field was immediate, as he helped orchestrate Hanoi FC’s sharp passing and fluid gameplay, reminiscent of the team’s peak years under former coach Chu Dinh Nghiem. The only goal of the match came in the 26th minute when a misdirected goal kick from Binh Duong goalkeeper Tran Minh Toan led to a Hanoi counter. Pham Tuan Hai picked up the loose ball, driving towards the center and passing to Van Quyet in the box. Rather than taking the shot, Van Quyet cleverly played it to Hai Long, who struck a sharp, close-range shot into the net, putting Hanoi in the lead.
Throughout the first half, Hanoi FC’s offensive strength put Binh Duong’s defense under significant pressure. In the 17th minute, Joao Pedro’s close-range shot forced a diving save from Minh Toan, and just minutes later, Tuan Hai’s powerful shot from 26 meters out clipped the goalpost. The Hanoi attack maintained a relentless pace, with close calls continuing into the 36th minute when Que Ngoc Hai heroically blocked Van Quyet’s shot.
In the second half, Hanoi’s control continued but became less potent after coach Le Duc Tuan substituted Van Quyet, Do Hung Dung, and Pedro. Although their offensive rhythm slowed, Hanoi’s defense held strong, with Quan Van Chuan delivering crucial saves to keep the lead intact. Binh Duong created a few notable chances, including a near-goal from striker Tien Linh early in the second half, but they couldn’t break through.
Hanoi’s win brings them to 13 points, tied with Nam Dinh but trailing on goal difference, while Thanh Hoa remains at the top. Binh Duong, with 11 points, sits in seventh place, extending their winless streak.
In the upcoming Round 9, Hanoi FC will visit Quang Nam on November 19, while Binh Duong will host Nam Dinh on November 20.
