Vietnam women’s futsal team secures dominant victory against Myanmar

Vietnam’s women’s futsal team began their AFF Futsal Championship 2024 campaign on a high note with a convincing 5-2 victory over Myanmar. The win provides a strong foundation for their upcoming match against Indonesia.

Vietnam struck early, opening the scoring in the third minute. From a direct pass from the defensive half, Bui Thi Trang held off her marker and laid the ball perfectly for captain Thanh Hang to fire past goalkeeper Chaw Sandi Aung.

Despite their strong start, Vietnam failed to maintain pressure, and a defensive lapse in the 10th minute allowed Myanmar to equalize. A seemingly straightforward throw-in was poorly defended, enabling Nang Seng Brim to slot into an empty net, leveling the match at 1-1.

Vietnam created several chances afterward, but attempts from Thanh Ngan and Thanh Hang missed the target. Myanmar capitalized on a defensive error in the 16th minute, as Nang Seng Brim dribbled past Van Anh with ease. Thuy Linh parried the initial shot, but Sett Nwe Ni was on hand to slot home the rebound, putting Myanmar ahead 2-1 at halftime.

Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang adjusted Vietnam’s strategy during the break, urging his players to increase their tempo and press higher up the court. The changes paid off immediately in the second half. In the 21st minute, Phuong Anh unleashed a stunning long-range shot from Thanh Ngan’s sideline pass, bringing the game back to 2-2.

With renewed confidence, Vietnam dominated proceedings. In the 25th minute, Bien Thi Hang restored Vietnam’s lead with a decisive strike following a direct dribble into the penalty area.

Continuous pressure from Vietnam led to their fourth goal in the 32nd minute. Thanh Ngan converted a penalty after Bui Thi Trang was fouled by Myanmar’s goalkeeper Chaw Sandi Aung inside the box. The victory was sealed in the 38th minute when K’Thua slotted home Vietnam’s fifth goal, capping off an impressive performance.

With this resounding victory, Vietnam sets its sights on their second group-stage match against Indonesia, scheduled for 3:00 PM tomorrow (November 18).
