Vietnam women’s futsal team advances to final match with Thailand

The Vietnam women’s futsal team delivered a flawless group stage performance at the 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship, winning all three matches and securing a place in the final, where they will face Thailand.

Coached by Nguyen Dinh Hoang, the Vietnamese team began their campaign with a commanding 5-2 victory over Myanmar. They followed this with a comprehensive 5-0 win against Indonesia, showcasing their tactical discipline and sharp attacking play. With these back-to-back triumphs, the team entered their third match against hosts Philippines brimming with confidence.

In the match against the Philippines, Vietnam wasted no time asserting their dominance. They controlled possession and dictated the pace of the game from the outset. Lan Mai broke the deadlock in the 13th minute, giving Vietnam a well-deserved lead. Despite several defensive efforts from the hosts, the Vietnamese team maintained relentless pressure.

The second half saw Vietnam shift into higher gear. Goals came in quick succession from Thanh Ngan, Phuong Anh, Lan Mai, Thu Xuan, and K’Thua, effectively sealing the game. The Philippines managed to score a consolation goal through Campo, but it was far from enough to threaten Vietnam’s overwhelming superiority. The match ended with a convincing 6-1 victory for Vietnam.

With three dominant wins, the Vietnamese women’s futsal team accumulated a perfect nine points, ensuring their place in the tournament final with one group match remaining. Their final group stage clash against Thailand on November 20 will serve as a precursor to the final and determine which team tops the group standings.

The 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship final is set to take place on November 21, where Vietnam will again face Thailand in what promises to be a thrilling contest. Both teams have shown exceptional form throughout the tournament, setting up an eagerly anticipated showdown for the championship title.

Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performances thus far, emphasizing their focus on maintaining consistency and discipline.
