Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, the former captain of Vietnam’s women’s national volleyball team, has officially joined Indonesian club Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk for the upcoming Proliga season.
After reaching an agreement to play in Indonesia’s top-tier volleyball league, the 1.93m tall spiker departed for the country on December 9. However, her official introduction by the club took place only yesterday, December 18.
Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk announced Tran Thi Thanh Thuy’s signing through a highlight video showcasing her powerful jump serves and dynamic spikes. The video also featured Thanh Thuy wearing her familiar jersey number 3. She is currently the only international player officially introduced by the club for the upcoming 2025 season.
Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk, a club with six Proliga finals appearances but no championship titles, aims to change its fortunes by bolstering its roster with both strong local players and the addition of Thanh Thuy. Her international experience, which includes stints in Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, and Turkey, is expected to make her a key asset in their championship campaign. Her fluency in English has also helped her quickly integrate into the team. Videos shared by the club show her singing for her teammates and exhibiting a friendly and approachable personality.
The Proliga season is set to run from January 3 to May 11, 2025, featuring seven teams: Bandung bjb Tandamata, Jakarta Popsivo Polwan, Jakarta Pertamina Fatron, Jakarta Bin, Jakarta Elektrik PLN, Jakarta Livin Mandiri, and Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk. Competing in a league of moderate intensity, Thanh Thuy is expected to gain ample playing time to regain her peak form and deliver outstanding performances.
With her remarkable skill set and extensive experience, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy is poised to make a significant impact for Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk as they chase their first Proliga title.
