Former national team player displays unsportsmanlike conduct in amateur tournament

Le Sy Manh, a former player for Vietnam’s national team, has come under scrutiny for his unsportsmanlike behavior during the Thanh Hoa Hometown Football Tournament in Ho Chi Minh City.

The incident began when Manh was involved in a clash with an opposing player inside the penalty area. Referee Pham Van Nguyen assessed the situation and issued Manh a yellow card, ruling that he had made contact with the opponent’s face.

Manh reacted poorly to the referee’s decision. When warned about his conduct, he used his hand to push the referee’s face. This led to a second yellow card and a subsequent red card, expelling him from the match. However, the situation escalated further as Manh kicked the referee in the side and punched him. Other players quickly intervened to stop the altercation from worsening.

This is not the first time Le Sy Manh has been involved in a violent confrontation. In 2017, while serving as an assistant coach for Hai Phong FC, he assaulted goalkeeper Dang Van Lam, chasing him out of the team’s accommodations. The incident resulted in Manh’s dismissal from the club, tarnishing his reputation within the Vietnamese football community.

Le Sy Manh, born in 1984, enjoyed a notable career as a footballer, playing for clubs such as Hanoi T&T, The Vissai Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Hai Phong. He was also a member of Vietnam’s national team under coach Henrique Calisto. Despite his achievements on the field, his career has been overshadowed by repeated instances of misconduct, raising concerns about his behavior and professionalism in the sport.

The recent incident during the amateur tournament has reignited discussions about the importance of sportsmanship and proper conduct in football. Many believe that actions like Manh’s highlight the need for stricter enforcement of discipline to uphold the integrity of the game, both at the professional and amateur levels.
