Vietnam remains unbeaten in the ASEAN Cup 2024, but a recurring issue has been their inability to score in the first half of matches. Ahead of the semi-final second leg against Singapore, coach Kim Sang Sik emphasized the importance of addressing this during the pre-match press conference.
“We haven’t scored in the first half yet, but this isn’t a major problem,” Kim stated. “The team has created many chances, but luck hasn’t been on our side. I’m working on adjustments, and I hope Vietnam can play more decisively in the first 45 minutes of the upcoming match.”
Reflecting on the first-leg victory, Kim noted, “Our performance improved significantly in the second half. After analyzing the match, we better understand how to counter Singapore’s strengths, particularly their long-ball tactics. I hope we can neutralize those and exert more pressure on their defense in the second leg.”
Despite the 2-0 lead secured in Singapore, Kim warned against complacency. “Being up 2-0 is an advantage, but it’s far from a secure scoreline. While maintaining focus on defense, we will give our all in attack. Playing at home, we want to reward our fans for their unwavering support.”
Joining the press conference, team captain Duy Manh echoed the coach’s sentiments. “Many may think facing Singapore is straightforward, but we treat every match with the utmost seriousness,” he said. “Fans have queued for tickets to cheer us on, and we deeply feel their passion.”
Duy Manh stressed the team’s focus remains on the immediate challenge rather than looking ahead to the final. “Right now, our only concern is the second leg. It’s crucial to complete the task at hand. Our fans are a massive source of motivation, and we want to deliver a strong performance in the semi-final.”
The second-leg match between Vietnam and Singapore is set to kick off at 8:00 PM on December 29 at Viet Tri Stadium. Vietnam will look to capitalize on their home advantage and secure a spot in the final while continuing their unbeaten run in the tournament.
