Nguyen Xuan Son, who sustained a serious injury during the AFF Cup 2024 second-leg final against Thailand, received medical care in Thailand courtesy of Nualphan Lamsam (Madam Pang), President of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT). According to Thai Post, Madam Pang covered the medical expenses incurred during Xuan Son’s hospital stay before he returned to Vietnam.
Xuan Son was forced off the field in the first half of the final at Rajamangala Stadium on January 5 due to a severe leg injury. He was immediately taken to a local hospital in Thailand for treatment.
“Madam Pang coordinated care and support for Nguyen Xuan Son, the injured Vietnamese striker during the AFF Cup 2024 final,” the Thai Post reported. It added that Madam Pang personally covered his medical expenses and ensured proper care until he departed for Vietnam with his team.
In addition, FAT arranged an ambulance to transport Xuan Son to the airport for his return to Vietnam. This gesture of sportsmanship was acknowledged by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), which expressed gratitude for the support.
After returning to Vietnam on January 6, Xuan Son underwent surgery at Vinmec Sports Medicine Center. The VFF is fully covering the costs of his treatment to provide optimal conditions for his recovery and eventual return to football.
Professor Tran Trung Dung, Director of Orthopedic Trauma and Sports Medicine at Vinmec, reported that the surgery was successful and detailed a comprehensive rehabilitation plan. “Post-surgery, the medical team has devised a specialized training and nutrition plan for Xuan Son to ensure proper bone healing and muscle retention. If recovery progresses smoothly, he could return to competitive play in 8-9 months,” said Professor Dung during a report to Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan on January 7.
Xuan Son is currently in stable condition and has begun using crutches for mobility. In 2-3 days, he is expected to start localized rehabilitation training, which will involve 6-8 hours of daily exercises.
This recovery process aims to help Xuan Son regain full fitness and return to the pitch as soon as possible. Fans and teammates eagerly await his comeback, knowing the striker’s determination and resilience will be key to overcoming this challenging period.
The cooperation between FAT and VFF demonstrates the spirit of sportsmanship and unity in Southeast Asian football, with both federations ensuring the best care for one of Vietnam’s brightest talents.
