After leading the Vietnam national team to victory in the 2024 ASEAN Cup, coach Kim Sang Sik has returned to South Korea for a vacation and may return to Hanoi during the Lunar New Year.
On January 10, coach Kim Sang Sik traveled back to South Korea for a break. The 1976-born coach shared that he had not visited his family for 3-4 months and was eagerly looking forward to having a meal with his wife and children.
Previously, during the Vietnam national team’s training camp in South Korea to prepare for the 2024 ASEAN Cup, Kim Sang Sik only made a quick stop at home to pick up some personal belongings. This time, he will have an extended period to spend with his family.
The most meaningful gift Kim Sang Sik brings home to his wife and children is the 2024 ASEAN Cup championship with the Vietnam national team. In his first experience leading a national team, the achievement with the “Golden Star Warriors” exceeded the expectations of the Korean strategist. Initially, coach Kim Sang Sik believed that reaching the final would already be a success for Vietnam.
“Winning the championship with Jeonbuk in the Korean league was wonderful, but claiming the 2024 ASEAN Cup with Vietnam is the most amazing moment of my life,” Kim Sang Sik stated.
Regarding future plans, after spending time with his family, coach Kim Sang Sik will return to work. In 2025, his two most important tasks will be guiding Vietnam through the final qualifying round for the 2027 Asian Cup and reclaiming the SEA Games gold medal in Thailand.
“Our goal is to pass the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers and win the 33rd SEA Games. To achieve this, I’ve planned to attend matches to scout new talent for the national team.
Winning the 2024 ASEAN Cup was just a moment. To conquer greater challenges and achieve new milestones, everyone must put in effort and meticulous preparation,” Kim Sang Sik emphasized.
After returning to South Korea, coach Kim Sang Sik revealed that during his next visit to Vietnam, he might bring his wife and children to experience the Lunar New Year for the first time. The Vietnam national team’s head coach admitted he would surely miss Vietnam’s iconic pho in the coming days.
