Vietnam’s sports delegation for the 2025 Asian Winter Games will depart on February 2, the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, to compete in this prestigious event.
According to the Department of Ice Skating and Roller Sports (under the General Department of Physical Education and Sports), Vietnam will officially send its delegation to the Asian Winter Games 2025 after the Lunar New Year holiday. The delegation includes one athlete, Duong Truong Lap, representing Vietnam in speed skating.
“Duong Truong Lap has been part of the national ice skating team and has been training in Ho Chi Minh City in preparation for the Asian Winter Games,” said Nguyen Thac Vu, a representative of the department. Under the guidance of coach Huu Vinh, Truong Lap has undergone two months of intensive training to ensure readiness for the competition.
Duong Truong Lap is set to compete in three short-track speed skating events: the 500m, 1,000m, and 1,500m individual races. His selection followed his strong performance at the 2024 National Youth Ice Skating Championship, which served as a benchmark for determining his readiness for the Asian Winter Games. This marks Truong Lap’s debut at this continental event.
The Vietnamese delegation comprises three members: delegation leader Ngo Quang Vinh (Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Cycling and Motor Sports Federation), coach Nguyen Vo Huu Vinh, and athlete Duong Truong Lap.
The 2025 Asian Winter Games will take place in Harbin, China, from February 7 to February 14. The organizers have announced the official competition schedule, with the opening ceremony set for February 7, followed by the main events. The short-track speed skating events will occur on February 8 and 9, featuring nine medal categories. In total, the Games will include 64 medal events across 11 official sports, with participation from 34 delegations representing various Asian countries and territories.
On its website, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) highlighted Duong Truong Lap’s participation in the Games. Tran Van Manh, Secretary General of the Vietnam Olympic Committee, expressed optimism about Truong Lap’s performance, stating that the young athlete is a promising talent expected to deliver commendable results at the Games.
