Hanoi FC has made a bold move by inviting renowned Japanese coach Makoto Teguramori to lead the team starting from the return leg of the V-League 2024/25 season.
Born in 1967, Teguramori was once a celebrated midfielder for top Japanese clubs such as Kashima Antlers and NEC Yamagata. In his early coaching career, he spent five years with Vegalta Sendai before taking charge of the Japan U23 national team from 2014 to 2016, guiding them to win the AFC U23 Championship 2016. He also served as an assistant coach for the Japan national team under Akira Nishino.
After his success with Japan’s youth team, Teguramori ventured to Thailand in 2022 to coach BG Pathum United, where he helped the team win the Thai Super Cup. However, his time in Thailand saw ups and downs; after a brief period at BG Pathum United, he was dismissed, then later took a job with Chonburi before returning to BG Pathum United and facing another setback.
Now, Hanoi FC believes that his rich experience and tactical expertise are exactly what the club needs to elevate its performance. The club has agreed to welcome him back and is even prepared to hire two or three Japanese assistant coaches to support him. In addition, Hanoi FC plans to bring in up to two Japanese translators to ensure smooth communication between Coach Teguramori and the players. (For young readers: a “translator” is someone who helps people who speak different languages understand each other.)
Hanoi FC’s decision to bring in Coach Teguramori underscores its commitment to building a stronger team and reaching new heights in the V-League. The club is confident that with his proven leadership—demonstrated by his past success with Japan U23 and his work with top clubs in Japan and Thailand—this new chapter will inspire the players and bring exciting victories for Hanoi FC.
As the team prepares for the next stage of the season, fans eagerly await the transformation that Coach Teguramori’s fresh approach and international experience are expected to bring. This appointment is seen as a significant step toward not only improving the club’s performance on the field but also fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning within Vietnamese football.
