As part of their squad preparations for the AFC Women’s Champions League quarterfinals, Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC has signed two American foreign players to replace the previous imports, who were also from the United States and featured in the group stage.
Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC will face Abu Dhabi Country (UAE) in the quarterfinals, a team considered very strong. Therefore, coach Kim Chi has planned early reinforcements. In the group stage, the club had the support of three American foreign players, who were introduced through Huynh Nhu. However, all three are currently committed to their home clubs and are unable to return.
The two new foreign players are expected to bring physical strength to help the team compete in the continental tournament. The first is center-back Aubrey Goodwill, born in 1998 and standing 1.77 meters tall. According to her profile, she developed through the U.S. collegiate soccer system, playing for Sacramento and California Storm before moving to Real SC in Portugal’s third division. During her time with Sacramento, Goodwill won several individual awards.
The second signing is forward Sabrina Marie Cabrera, also a product of U.S. collegiate soccer. Born in 2001, she stands 1.75 meters tall. Cabrera’s arrival is expected to strengthen Ho Chi Minh City’s attacking line alongside Huynh Nhu and Tuyet Ngan. Additionally, the reigning Vietnamese women’s champions are expected to sign another foreign player in the coming days.
The AFC Women’s Champions League quarterfinal match between Ho Chi Minh City Women’s FC and Abu Dhabi Country is scheduled for the evening of March 22 at Thong Nhat Stadium. Both teams finished second in their respective groups. Abu Dhabi Country, a formidable team from West Asia, demonstrated their strength in the group stage by drawing with Hyundai Steel (South Korea) and defeating Wuhan Jiangda (China)—two clubs from nations with strong women’s football traditions in Asia.
Abu Dhabi Country’s squad has been bolstered by several foreign players, including Brazilian goalkeeper Jeane, Ukrainian defender Valeriia Olkhovska, Algerian midfielder Aicha Hamideche, and Japanese midfielder Nanami Sone.
