Binh Duong – Young striker Bui Vi Hao of Becamex Binh Duong is eager to make his mark by scoring against Laos in Vietnam’s opening match of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on March 25 at Go Dau Stadium, hoping to dedicate the goal to the passionate all the fans and beyond. Following a lackluster substitute appearance in Vietnam’s narrow 2-1 friendly win over Cambodia on March 19, the 22-year-old sees the upcoming clash as a chance to shine and contribute to a more convincing performance under coach Kim Sang-sik.
After a full day of rest on March 20, the Vietnam national team resumed training on the afternoon of March 21, sharpening their preparations for the Laos encounter. Ahead of the session, Vi Hao was chosen by the coaching staff to speak with the media, reflecting the trust placed in the reigning 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball Young Player of the Year. He revealed that the team plans to review footage from the Cambodia match to refine their approach. “In the coming days, the coaching staff and players will analyze what worked and what didn’t against Cambodia to improve for Laos,” he said.
Laos, considered a weaker side than Cambodia and coming off a recent loss to Sri Lanka, presents an opportunity for Vietnam to dominate. Vi Hao emphasized the team’s diligence: “We’ve studied Laos—how they play, their key positions. We’ll break them down thoroughly to deliver our best. Their defeat to Sri Lanka gives us insights into their strengths and weaknesses, plus a psychological edge. We’re especially focused on their three overseas-based players.” Despite Laos’ lower ranking, Vietnam remains cautious, aware of the potential threat from naturalized talents.
Vi Hao’s hunger to contribute was palpable. “I train at my absolute best to earn a spot,” he said. “Whether I start or come off the bench, I’m fully committed to the national colors. For this match, I hope to play and, if I can score, it’d be an amazing gift for Binh Duong fans and supporters nationwide.” His subdued showing against Cambodia—where Kim Sang-sik’s conservative tactics led to a gritty win—only fuels his determination to impress against Laos.
With Vietnam in Group F alongside Malaysia, Nepal, and Laos, the March 25 match kicks off their quest for a third consecutive Asian Cup berth. For Vi Hao, a goal could cement his case for a bigger role under Kim, whose cautious approach against Cambodia drew mixed reviews. As the team fine-tunes its game plan, fans at Go Dau Stadium eagerly await a breakout moment from their local star, hoping he lights up the night with a strike to remember.
