U17 Vietnam Impresses warm-up for 2025 AFC U17 Asian Cup

Muscat – U17 Vietnam continued their impressive preparations for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2025, securing a second straight 1-0 victory over U17 Oman in a friendly rematch during their training camp in Oman.

The young Vietnamese side, led by Coach Tran Minh Chien, showcased resilience and promise in these tune-up matches, building momentum ahead of the tournament in Saudi Arabia from April 3-20. With two clean-sheet wins, they’re sharpening their edge for a challenging group stage.

The first friendly on March 25 saw Vietnam edge Oman with a late goal from Bui Duy Dang in the 82nd minute, setting a gritty tone. The rematch on March 28 followed suit, with Vietnam balancing defensive solidity and attacking intent. Early in the game, Duy Khang nearly broke the deadlock, his 37th-minute shot veering just wide of the post after a clever buildup. Oman, playing at home, responded with their own threats, keeping Vietnam’s backline on alert. A tense moment came in the 65th minute when Oman bundled the ball into the net from a rebound, only for the referee to disallow it due to an offside call.

Vietnam’s persistence paid off in the 69th minute. A fluid team move carved open Oman’s defense, and Tan Dung coolly finished to claim the match’s lone goal. Late flair from Gia Bao in the 82nd minute—dribbling past a defender with finesse—almost doubled the lead, but his shot skimmed wide. Oman pressed for a reply, but Vietnam’s organized defense stood tall, sealing another 1-0 triumph and completing a perfect camp record.

This double victory primes U17 Vietnam for a formidable Group C at the Asian Cup, where they’ll face U17 Australia on April 4, U17 Japan on April 7, and U17 UAE on April 10. Progressing from this tough draw would earn them a coveted spot at the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup, a prize for the tournament’s top teams. “These wins are a solid foundation,” a team official remarked. “We’re ready to take on the big challenges.”

With Tan Dung and Duy Dang stepping up, Vietnam’s mix of teamwork and individual brilliance is coalescing. As they wrap up in Oman and head to Saudi Arabia, Coach Chien’s squad carries confidence and a clear goal: break through the group stage and chase a World Cup dream.
