Binh Duong, April 19, 2025 – Becamex Binh Duong coach Nguyen Cong Manh stepped down following a 0-3 home defeat to Hanoi FC in Round 19 of the LP Bank V-League 2024-2025 on April 19, capping a dismal run of three losses and one draw in four matches. The loss to Hanoi FC, coupled with setbacks against Hoang Anh Gia Lai (0-4) and Da Nang FC (1-1), left Binh Duong five points off the top three and 10 behind leaders Nam Dinh, with one more game played.
“I have my pride—if I can’t deliver, I step aside,” Manh said at the post-match press conference. “I told the board I’m ashamed of this damaging loss. Someone else can take over to improve the team. This is for Binh Duong’s good.” The 43-year-old, who led Binh Duong to the 2024 National Cup semifinals, apologized to fans, adding that a new coach would be announced soon.
Manh, a former Song Lam Nghe An player and assistant at Hong Linh Ha Tinh and Vietnam U23, took charge in late 2024 after Hoang Anh Tuan’s exit post-Round 9. His tenure yielded four V-League wins, two draws, four losses, and two penalty-shootout victories in the National Cup. Binh Duong joins Da Nang FC as the second V-League club to cycle through two coaches this season, after Da Nang replaced Dao Quang Hung with Cristiano Roland, then Le Duc Tuan. Song Lam Nghe An, Hanoi FC, and Thanh Hoa FC also switched coaches, with Phan Nhu Thuat, Makoto Teguramori, and Tomislav Steinbruckner taking over, respectively.
Binh Duong were outclassed at Go Dau Stadium. They lost defender Que Ngoc Hai to a muscle strain in the 33rd minute, weakening their backline. Hanoi FC’s Luka Bobicanec had a 6th-minute goal disallowed for offside, but Daniel Passira broke through in the 29th minute, lobbing Minh Toan after a Bobicanec through ball. Pham Tuan Hai doubled the lead in the 53rd minute, sprinting down the left and slotting past Minh Toan. Four minutes later, Vu Dinh Hai’s cross led to Abdurakhmanov’s own goal, sealing the 3-0 rout.
Hanoi FC, unbeaten under Teguramori (four wins, two draws), missed further chances through Do Hung Dung and Nguyen Van Truong. Their victory consolidates second place with 34 points, one shy of Nam Dinh. Binh Duong, with 23 points, slip to seventh, five above the relegation play-off zone. The loss, unlike Hanoi Police FC’s recent draw, exposes Binh Duong’s fading title hopes, with their next coach facing a steep challenge.
