Vietnam Canoeing reaches the summit of the continent

China, May 10, 2025 – At the 2025 Asian Canoe Championship held in China, the Vietnam Canoeing team made a strong impression with an impressive achievement of 1 gold medal (GOLD), 4 silver medals (SILVER), and 1 bronze medal (BRONZE), securing third place overall.

The precious gold medal came from the C4 mixed event (C4 Mix), where the Vietnam team excellently defeated strong competitors from China and Kazakhstan to achieve a flawless victory. This result not only affirms the remarkable progress of Vietnamese canoeing but also made a strong impression on regional friends.

The four athletes who contributed to this prestigious gold medal were Pham Hong Quan, Bui Thi Yen, Ma Thi Thuy, and Hien Nam. This is a well-deserved reward for their relentless efforts over time.

In the C2 women’s 1,000m event, the duo Nguyen Thi Huong and Nguyen Hong Thai fought valiantly, overcoming the North Korean team and only losing to the Chinese team, earning a silver medal.

In the C1 women’s 500m event, paddler Diep Thi Huong continued her impressive form by winning a silver medal, finishing behind the Chinese athlete and ahead of her Kazakhstan competitor. She, along with Nguyen Thi Huong, also earned another silver in the C2 women’s 500m event.

The fourth silver medal was claimed by Nguyen Hong Thai in the C1 women’s 500m. Meanwhile, the C2 women’s 200m event saw a bronze medal for the duo Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong.

The outstanding achievements at this competition reflect the effectiveness of the structured investment strategy and the proper development orientation of Vietnamese canoeing. This is a crucial step toward major international events like ASIAD and the Olympics in the near future.

With their courageous spirit and tireless efforts, the Vietnam Canoeing team is steadily establishing its position in the regional arena, contributing to raising the stature of Vietnamese sports.

Previously, the team set out for the competition with 5 coaches and 20 athletes, led by Mrs. Duong Thi Hong Hanh – Head of the Rowing Department, Vietnam General Department of Sports. The event took place from May 5 to May 10 in Nanchang, China.
