Bui Thi Nguyen, Le Tien Long, Bui Thi Ngan, and Duong Thi Thao led the charge, per Vietnam Athletics Federation (VAF) reports.
Bui Thi Nguyen, 24, clinched the women’s 100m hurdles gold in 13.43 seconds, edging China’s Wu Anqi by 0.07 seconds, though 0.05 seconds off her 13.38 personal best from the 2022 National Games, per VAF. Her steady form, mirroring Hanoi Police FC’s consistency, positions her for a SEA Games 33 breakthrough after a 2023 silver (13.50), trailing Huynh Thi My Tien (13.48), Vietnam’s top hurdlers, per Thanh Nien.
Bui Thi Ngan, also 24, earned a double gold in the women’s 800m (2:06.2) and 1,500m (4:22.31), surpassing her 2024 National Championships times (2:07.1, 4:23.8), per VnExpress. Her endurance, akin to Song Lam Nghe An’s youth grit, signals readiness for the Asian Championships later this month. Le Tien Long, 24, marked his international return since SEA Games 2023, winning the men’s 3,000m steeplechase (9:10.51) and 5,000m (14:49.8), slower than his personal bests (8:53.62, 14:37.14), per, but a strong comeback, echoing The Cong Viettel’s resilience.
Duong Thi Thao, 19, Vietnam’s youngest competitor, claimed the women’s high jump gold at 1.81m, consistent with her 1.82m at the HCMC Speed Cup 2025, per Bao Moi. A rising star with a 2023 U18 SEA silver, 2024 SEA Students’ gold, and 2024 National Championships bronze, Thao’s progress from 1.74m to 1.81m, per Tuoi Tre, draws comparisons to Bui Thi Nhung’s 1.94m national record, per. She needs a 1.9m leap to challenge Nhung’s legacy, a goal for SEA Games 33, fueled by Ho Chi Minh City FC-like fan support.
Vietnam’s five-athlete squad was reduced after Hoang Thanh Giang withdrew from the women’s 800m and javelin due to illness. Concurrently, Nguyen Hoai Van (javelin), Le Quoc Hy (400m hurdles), Nguyen Quoc Thinh (high jump), and Pham Quynh Giang (high jump) competed at the Singapore Open, per VAF. With 16 athletes set for the Asian Championships, Vietnam’s haul at Hong Kong’s 5,000-capacity venue, rivaling Nam Dinh FC’s Thien Truong, underscores their regional dominance, mirroring Hanoi FC’s V.League ascent, as they eye SEA Games 33 and Asian glory.
