Ho Chi Minh, 16 June, 2025 – Vietnam’s U19 women’s team delivered a commanding performance to beat Indonesia 4-0 in the semifinals of the 2025 AFF U19 Women’s Championship, booking their spot in the final against Thailand.
The match, held on the evening of June 16 at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, saw the home side enter with full confidence after winning all three of their group stage matches. Despite Indonesia’s addition of naturalized American-born player Sydney Hopper, Vietnam remained composed and dominant throughout the encounter.
Just 11 minutes in, Hong Minh opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick from over 30 meters out, leaving the Indonesian goalkeeper helpless as the ball sailed into the top corner.
Indonesia tried to respond quickly, leaning on the energy and attacking threat of Hopper, but Vietnam’s defense, anchored by a well-organized backline and goalkeeper Le Thi Thu, stayed firm under pressure. Moments before halftime, Hoai Trinh and Hoang Van combined brilliantly in the final third to double Vietnam’s lead with a well-constructed goal, sending the home side into the break up 2-0.
After halftime, coach Masahiko Okiyama’s side turned up the intensity and were rewarded with two quick goals within the opening 10 minutes of the second half. Hoang Van and Hoai Trinh each found the net again, extending the lead to 4-0 and leaving Indonesia with no way back.
With a commanding advantage, Vietnam slowed the tempo and managed the game effectively. Indonesia, visibly fatigued, struggled to create meaningful chances as the match wore on. In the end, Vietnam’s discipline, tactical sharpness, and attacking efficiency proved too much.
The 4-0 victory sends Vietnam to the final, where they will face traditional rivals Thailand in what promises to be a highly anticipated clash for the regional crown.
