Viktor Le Scores as U22 Vietnam thrash U22 Taiwan in close door friendly match

Ho Chi Minh, 2 July, 2025 – Vietnam U22 delivered a commanding 5-0 win over Taiwan U22 in a closed-door friendly match held in Vung Tau on July 2, with overseas Vietnamese player Viktor Le among the scorers.

The match was played behind closed doors to ensure tactical confidentiality for both teams as they prepare for upcoming tournaments. Coach Kim Sang Sik’s squad demonstrated their superiority throughout the game, dominating possession and converting five chances into goals.

The goals came from Viktor Le, Nguyen Phi Hoang, Khuat Van Truong, Nguyen Quoc Viet, and Le Van Thuan. The result marked a promising step forward in the team’s preparation for the 2025 AFF U23 Championship, set to be held later this month.

Coach Kim Sang Sik used the match to thoroughly evaluate player form and adaptability to his tactical setup. The performance served as a key opportunity for the coaching staff to fine-tune the squad ahead of the regional tournament.

Vietnam U22 will play a second friendly against Chinese Taipei U22 on July 4. Following that match, Coach Kim will finalize his squad list in preparation for the journey to Indonesia.

The 2025 AFF U23 Championship will take place from July 15 to 31, featuring 10 teams divided into three groups. Vietnam U22 is placed in Group B alongside Laos and Cambodia. The group stage will be played in a round-robin format, with the three group winners and the best-performing runner-up advancing to the semifinals.

Vietnam enters the tournament as the defending champions, aiming to retain their regional crown under the guidance of their new Korean head coach.
