Ho Chi Minh, 3 July, 2025 – Coach Phung Thanh Phuong has officially parted ways with Ho Chi Minh City FC following two seasons at the helm. The club confirmed the news via its official Facebook page on July 3.
After a standout 2023/2024 season in which he led Ho Chi Minh City FC to an impressive fourth-place finish, Phung Thanh Phuong faced a more difficult campaign in 2024/2025. The team struggled throughout the season and ended up in 10th place, narrowly avoiding relegation in the V.League 1 standings.

In the official announcement, the club expressed its appreciation for the coach’s dedication and contributions, stating:
“Ho Chi Minh City FC sincerely thanks Coach Phung Thanh Phuong for his devoted service during his time with the team.
He has always given his all, standing side by side with the club through many challenges and leaving behind unforgettable memories.
We wish Coach Phung Thanh Phuong good health, continued success, and many achievements in his next journey.”
Coach Phung’s departure follows a series of changes at the club as it prepares for the 2025/2026 season. Young midfielder Hoang Vinh Nguyen has also left the team, while experienced winger Vo Huy Toan has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2027.
The departure of Coach Phung Thanh Phuong marks a significant change for Ho Chi Minh City FC, which now begins the search for a new head coach to lead the club forward in the upcoming season.
