Indonesia, 19 July, 2025 – Right from the first whistle, U23 Vietnam asserted their dominance, controlling possession and pressing forward with intensity. Most of their attacking play came down the left wing, where Phi Hoang and Khuat Van Khang combined effectively to create multiple dangerous situations. The breakthrough came in the 19th minute when Khuat Van Khang latched onto a low cross and calmly slotted home a first-time finish, putting U23 Vietnam ahead 1-0.
In the second half, U23 Vietnam continued to dictate the tempo and looked increasingly threatening. Their pressure paid off again in the 71st minute. From a well-delivered corner on the left, defender Hieu Minh leapt above the crowd to head the ball into the back of the net, doubling the lead to 2-0.
The center-back wasn’t finished yet. In the 84th minute, after a scramble in the U23 Laos penalty area, Hieu Minh reacted quickest to smash in his second goal of the night and sealed a well-deserved 3-0 victory for U23 Vietnam.
Coach Kim Sang Sik’s men were in full control throughout the match, showcasing sharp passing, solid teamwork, and a high level of technical skill. U23 Laos, meanwhile, struggled to create attacking opportunities and spent most of the game defending deep in their own half.
This emphatic result not only gives U23 Vietnam a perfect start in Group A but also boosts confidence as they aim to defend their title. The reigning champions, who won the tournament in both 2022 and 2023, are now well positioned for another deep run in the 2025 edition.
