Jarkata, 29 July, 2025 – U23 Vietnam head coach Kim Sang Sik expressed immense pride after his team defeated Indonesia 1-0 in the final to clinch their third consecutive ASEAN U23 Championship title on July 29.

A solitary strike from Cong Phuong sealed the historic win at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, where Vietnam faced intense pressure from both the host team and tens of thousands of Indonesian supporters. Despite the challenging atmosphere, the defending champions delivered a disciplined and courageous performance.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Kim Sang Sik said:

“We are very happy to secure this victory against Indonesia in regular time. Although most of the stadium was filled with Indonesian supporters, our players stayed focused and showed great bravery to achieve this result.”

The Korean coach also extended his gratitude to fans back home:

“I congratulate the whole team and thank all Vietnamese football fans for their continuous support and encouragement for U23 Vietnam.”

On the other side, Indonesia’s head coach Gerald Vanenburg acknowledged the efforts of his players despite the loss:

“Our players performed well and can be proud of themselves. Football always has wins and losses, and we must now focus on learning from this experience to improve in the upcoming tournaments.”

With this triumph, Kim Sang Sik not only led Vietnam U23 to a historic third consecutive ASEAN U23 Championship but also reinforced his status as one of the most successful coaches in the region.
