Vietnam women’s national team determined ahead of third-place clash with Thailand at MSIG Serenity Cup 2025

Hai Phong, 19 August, 2025 – This afternoon, August 19, the Vietnam women’s national football team will face Thailand once again in the third-place playoff of the ASEAN Women’s Cup 2025. The highly anticipated encounter is scheduled for 16:30 at Lach Tray Stadium in Hai Phong, where thousands of fans are expected to fill the stands to support the home side.

Speaking ahead of the match, head coach Mai Duc Chung acknowledged the disappointment from the semifinal defeat to Australia but praised his players’ efforts. “Perhaps everyone who watched the semifinal live felt the same regret as we did. The players gave 150% of their effort, but the opponent was simply too strong. In the second half we played better, but football is like that. Even with high determination, results still depend on many different factors,” he explained.

Looking at their upcoming opponents, Thailand, whom Vietnam defeated in the group stage, the experienced coach emphasized both confidence and caution. “Confidence is important, but we must not be complacent. We need to learn from our mistakes in the previous matches. We have pointed out the strengths and weaknesses to the players, and I hope this time we can minimize errors and achieve victory,” he said.

Coach Chung also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the nation’s leaders and the Vietnamese supporters who have stood firmly behind women’s football. The presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the semifinal in Hai Phong left a lasting impression on the squad. “What touched us the most was that despite his very busy schedule, the Prime Minister still came to the stadium to encourage us. We are truly grateful and would like to thank the Party and the State. The whole team promises to give more than 100% effort in this match to fight for victory,” Chung affirmed.

For Vietnam, this bronze medal match is more than just a battle for third place. It is an opportunity to restore pride, reward their fans’ passionate support, and end the tournament on a high note after narrowly missing out on the final. The team has already shown their fighting spirit throughout the competition, winning all three of their group stage matches before falling 1-2 to Australia in the semifinal.

Meanwhile, Thailand will also be determined to bounce back after their own semifinal disappointment against Myanmar. The clash between the two long-standing rivals promises to be intense, with both sides eager to claim the last podium spot.

With Lach Tray expected to be filled with the red-and-yellow of home supporters, Vietnam’s women will look to channel that energy, tighten their defense, and unleash their attacking stars once more. As coach Mai Duc Chung stressed, the mission is clear: fight with spirit, limit mistakes, and give everything for the bronze medal.
