Vietnam women’s volleyball team announces squad for 2025 FIVB World Championship

Hanoi, 19 August, 2025 – On August 19, the Vietnam Volleyball Federation officially announced the national women’s volleyball team roster for the upcoming FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2025. The tournament will be held in Phuket, Thailand, from August 22 to September 7, marking Vietnam’s historic debut on the world stage.

Head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his players are scheduled to depart for Phuket on August 20. In their first-ever appearance at the global championship, Vietnam has been drawn into Group G, where they will face formidable opponents: Poland (ranked 3rd in the world), Germany (ranked 11th), and Kenya (ranked 22nd).

According to the fixture list, Vietnam will open their campaign against powerhouse Poland on August 23, followed by matches against Germany on August 25 and Kenya on August 27. The 2025 World Championship will feature 32 teams divided into eight groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Round of 16.

To prepare for this prestigious competition, the Vietnamese women’s team has undergone an intensive training program and competed in several regional tournaments. Among their recent highlights was the historic victory over Thailand en route to winning the second leg of the SEA V.League 2025, a triumph that boosted both confidence and momentum ahead of the world championship.

Under the guidance of coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet, the official 13-player squad representing Vietnam includes:

  • Outside hitters: Tran Thi Thanh Thuy (captain), Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, Nguyen Thi Uyen, Nguyen Thi Phuong

  • Middle blockers: Nguyen Thi Trinh, Tran Thi Bich Thuy, Le Thanh Thuy, Pham Thi Hien

  • Opposite spiker: Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh

  • Setters: Doan Thi Lam Oanh, Vo Thi Kim Thoa

  • Liberos: Nguyen Khanh Dang, Nguyen Thi Ninh Anh

Notably absent from the roster is star opposite hitter Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen. Due to personal reasons, Bich Tuyen requested to sit out of this tournament, and both the Vietnam Volleyball Federation and the coaching staff have respected her decision. Her absence is a significant loss, as she has been one of the most prolific scorers for the national team in recent years.

Despite this setback, Vietnam enters the tournament with a blend of experienced players and rising talents, led by captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, who continues to be the team’s inspirational leader. While the challenge of competing against world-class opponents such as Poland and Germany will be immense, the Vietnamese women’s team hopes to make a strong impression in their historic first appearance at the World Championship.
