Bangkok, 10 October 2025 – At the Asian Esports Forum held on October 9–10, 2025, in Bangkok, Thailand, the Vietnam Recreational and. Electronic Sports Association (VIRESA) and the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), announcing that Vietnam will host the 2nd Asian Esports Games (AEG 2026).
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr.Do Viet Hung, President of VIRESA and Vice President of AESF, stated:
“Vietnam is one of the most dynamic esports markets in the region, with more than 28 million participants across over ten popular esports disciplines. In addition to its strong potential in esports, Vietnam is renowned for its diverse culture, stunning landscapes, and hospitality. We believe that AEG 2026 will not only provide a world-class stage for athletes but also an opportunity for international friends to experience the depth of Vietnamese culture and identity.”
Mr. Hung further emphasized:
“Together with our partners across Southeast Asia, VIRESA is committed to delivering the best possible experience for athletes, fans, and federations, celebrating the talent, creativity, and connection of the Asian esports community. We hope AEG 2026 will not only be a tournament but also a symbol of unity, innovation, and collaboration across the region.”
The Asian Esports Games (AEG) is a continental-level esports event initiated and endorsed by the AESF. The inaugural edition, AEG 2024, was held in Bangkok, Thailand, from November 25 to December 2, 2024, hosted by the Thailand Esports Federation with the support of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) and the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF). The event gathered 179 athletes from 29 countries and territories, making it the largest esports competition in Asia to date. The Vietnamese national team made a strong impression by winning the silver medal in Arena of Valor (Liên Quân Mobile) — one of Vietnam’s strongest disciplines.
By hosting AEG 2026, Vietnam reaffirms its position as a new hub of esports in Southeast Asia and demonstrates its firm commitment to developing professional esports. As a vital part of the country’s digital cultural industry ecosystem, VIRESA aims to build a humanistic, creative, and sustainable esports foundation, contributing to the implementation of Vietnam’s National Digital Transformation Strategy and the Cultural Industry Development Strategy toward 2030, with a vision to 2045.
