Paris, 13 October 2025 – The Women’s Petanque World Championship concluded on October 12 at the Douaisis Sports Hall in Sin-le-Noble, northern France, with a commanding victory by Team Vietnam over Thailand in the final match.
According to the latest report from Paris, the defending champions from Vietnam delivered a stunning performance to defeat Thailand 13–1, successfully defending their world title in emphatic fashion.
Reaching the final, however, was no easy task. The Vietnamese women had to overcome a determined Belgian side in a hard-fought semifinal, winning narrowly 13–10. Earlier in the competition, Belgium had pulled off an upset by eliminating one of the two host teams from France — the birthplace of petanque — in the quarterfinals.
French media described the atmosphere inside the Douaisis Arena on October 12 as “vibrantly Asian,” as the other semifinal featured an all-Southeast Asian clash where Thailand defeated Cambodia 13–4 to book their place in the final. Despite their impressive journey and earlier success — including a gold medal in the precision shooting category — the Thai players could not repeat their triumph in the championship match against Vietnam’s exceptional teamwork and accuracy.
With this resounding win, Vietnam reaffirmed its position as one of the world’s leading nations in women’s petanque, showcasing not only precision and consistency but also tactical intelligence and composure under pressure. The result also reflects the strong development of Vietnamese petanque over the past decade, as the nation continues to achieve success at both the continental and global levels.
This world title defense in France stands as a proud moment for Vietnamese sports, reinforcing the country’s growing reputation in international competitions. The players and coaching staff are expected to receive official commendations from the General Department of Sports and Physical Training upon their return home.
