Ninh Binh, 12 October 2025 – Striker Nguyen Xuan Son made his long-awaited return to the pitch after 10 months sidelined with injury, featuring in Nam Dinh FC’s friendly match against PVF-CAND — a promising sign for both club and the Vietnam national team.
Vietnamese striker Nguyen Xuan Son has officially returned to action after a lengthy 10-month absence due to injury. The Nam Dinh FC forward was brought on late in the second half during a friendly match against PVF-CAND, marking his first minutes on the field since January. The coaching staff gave him the opportunity to gradually reacclimate to competitive football following his extended rehabilitation period.
Xuan Son’s comeback is seen as a highly encouraging development for both Nam Dinh FC and the Vietnam national team. Before his injury, the 26-year-old forward was among the most prolific scorers in the V.League 1 and a standout performer for Vietnam at the 2024 ASEAN Cup.

Despite joining the tournament late — featuring only from the final group-stage match against Myanmar — Xuan Son made an immediate impact, scoring seven goals in just five matches to win the Golden Boot award. His clinical finishing and dynamic play were instrumental in Vietnam’s deep run in the competition, establishing him as one of the country’s brightest attacking talents.
However, tragedy struck on January 5 when Xuan Son suffered a serious injury while attempting to save the ball during the second leg of the ASEAN Cup final against Thailand. The setback required surgery and a lengthy recovery process, during which the striker remained dedicated to his rehabilitation with the goal of returning stronger.
His appearance in the recent friendly marks the first step toward a full comeback, and Nam Dinh’s medical and coaching staff have expressed optimism about his steady progress. If his recovery continues as planned, Xuan Son is expected to rejoin Nam Dinh’s first team in the coming weeks and could even feature for the Vietnam national team in the crucial Asian Cup 2027 qualifier against Malaysia scheduled for March 2026.
For fans and teammates alike, seeing Xuan Son back on the field after such a long absence symbolizes hope and determination — a reminder of his talent, resilience, and importance to both club and country.
