Bahrain, 24 October 2025 – Vietnamese sports celebrated their first achievements at the 2025 Asian Youth Games (ASIAD Youth) in Bahrain on October 24, as young Taekwondo athletes brought home one silver and two bronze medals, marking a promising start for the national delegation.
The second official competition day of the 2025 Asian Youth Games brought good news for Vietnamese sports fans when the Taekwondo team delivered the country’s first medals of the tournament. The national contingent secured one silver medal and two bronze medals, a strong showing that highlights the potential of Vietnam’s young martial artists.
The silver medal came from Hoang Thi Thu Huyen, who competed impressively in the women’s 44kg category, while Bui Mai Phuong (over 63kg, women’s division) and Tran Ho Nhan Van (over 73kg, men’s division) each earned bronze medals.
Among them, 14-year-old Thu Huyen produced a particularly eye-catching performance. She overcame three opponents en route to the final, displaying composure and skill beyond her years. In the gold-medal match, however, she faced a more experienced fighter from Kazakhstan and fell short 0-2, settling for the silver medal. Despite the loss, her efforts stood out as one of Vietnam’s most notable performances of the competition so far.
With this result, the Vietnamese Taekwondo team concluded their campaign at the Asian Youth Games in perfect fashion — all three participating athletes earned medals, underscoring the program’s development and preparation for future continental and global competitions.
As of 8:45 PM on October 24, Vietnam temporarily ranks 17th overall on the medal table of the 2025 Asian Youth Games, which features more than 40 participating countries and territories. The event includes a wide range of disciplines within the Youth Olympic framework, serving as an essential platform to nurture the next generation of Asian sporting talent.
The Vietnamese delegation has sent 75 members, including 50 athletes, to compete in 11 out of 28 sports at the Games. These disciplines include Athletics, Badminton, Jujitsu, Boxing, Judo, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Taekwondo, Golf, Cycling, and Muay Thai.
