Vietnam secures 10th medals at Asian Youth Games 2025 with more good news from Muay and Weightlifting

Bahrain, 26 October 2025 – Vietnamese athletes continued to shine at the Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain, adding one silver and one bronze medal on October 26, raising the country’s total to 10 medals — including 5 silver and 5 bronze — and temporarily placing Vietnam 22nd overall in the medal standings.

Vietnamese delegation concluded the fourth day of competition at the Asian Youth Games 2025 with two more medals, marking an important milestone as the country reached its 10th medal at the ongoing continental multi-sport event in Bahrain.

In Muay Thai, young fighter Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong advanced to the final of the girls’ 48kg (age 14–15) category after a brilliant run that saw her win three consecutive bouts against strong opponents. In the gold medal match, Thu Phuong faced Rozhan Behnami from Iran, a technically superior fighter with excellent reach and precision. Despite her determination and resilience, the Vietnamese athlete struggled to turn the tide, losing by a unanimous decision of 26-30 after three rounds. Thu Phuong thus earned a well-deserved silver medal, marking another success for Vietnam’s Muay Thai contingent at this year’s Games.

Meanwhile, in weightlifting, Dao Thi Yen continued Vietnam’s medal streak by claiming a bronze medal in the women’s 44kg category. The young lifter achieved a total lift of 141kg, finishing behind strong opponents from China and Thailand. Yen’s bronze medal reflected her steady progress and the growing competitiveness of Vietnam’s youth weightlifting program.

With these latest achievements, Vietnam has now earned 5 silver and 5 bronze medals, moving up to 22nd place on the overall medal table as of 7:00 p.m. (Vietnam time) on October 26.

Earlier in the competition, Vietnam had secured four silver medals in golf, athletics, and taekwondo, along with four bronze medals in muay thai and taekwondo. These results underline the steady development of young Vietnamese athletes across multiple sports.

As the Asian Youth Games 2025 continues, the Vietnamese delegation remains determined to chase further success and prepare the next generation of talent for major regional and global competitions such as the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand and ASIAD 2026.
