FIFA plans to build a world-class football academy in Vietnam

Kuala Lumpur, 26 October 2025 – During his attendance at the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on October 26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, where both sides discussed strengthening cooperation and promoting the development of Vietnamese football, including a proposal to establish a FIFA Football Academy in Vietnam.

On the afternoon of October 26, as part of his working program at the 47th ASEAN Summit and related high-level meetings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino to discuss ways to enhance collaboration in developing Vietnamese football on the international stage.

During the meeting, FIFA President Gianni Infantino highly praised the progress of Vietnamese football in recent years. He emphasized that Vietnam’s football has made remarkable strides, with players showing clear improvement in both physical strength and technical ability. He also reaffirmed FIFA’s commitment to supporting Vietnam in developing the sport sustainably.

Highlighting Vietnam’s growing passion for football and its potential for long-term growth, Mr. Infantino expressed his desire to establish a FIFA Football Academy in Vietnam. According to him, this academy would serve as a training and education hub, helping nurture young talent and elevate the country’s football infrastructure to international standards.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked FIFA and President Infantino for their continued support of Vietnamese football, particularly in recent years when the sport has achieved notable success at both regional and continental levels. The Prime Minister welcomed FIFA’s proposal to open a football academy in Vietnam and affirmed that the Vietnamese Government will provide favorable conditions for its implementation.

He also expressed hope that President Gianni Infantino will continue to strengthen ties between Vietnamese football and Italy, one of the world’s most prestigious football nations, to promote cooperation in youth training, coaching, and football science.

Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh extended an invitation to the FIFA President to visit Vietnam soon and participate in football-related activities and events in the country. Mr. Infantino warmly accepted the invitation, expressing his enthusiasm for future cooperation and confidence in the bright prospects of Vietnamese football on the global stage.
