Hanoi, 31 October 2025 – Star swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, the leading figure of Vietnam’s national swimming team, will train in Nanning, China, starting November 6, as part of preparations for the 33rd SEA Games 2025 in Thailand. The one-month training camp is expected to help Hoang reach peak form ahead of the regional event.
Vietnam’s premier male swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang is set to begin an intensive training camp in Nanning, China, from November 6, as part of the national team’s plan to fine-tune form and strategy for the upcoming SEA Games 33, scheduled to take place in Thailand this December.
According to representatives from the Vietnam national swimming team, this training program is a key part of Hoang’s final preparation phase. “Nguyen Huy Hoang is one of the most important athletes in our squad. We hope this training period in China will provide positive technical and physical results, helping him achieve peak performance at the SEA Games,” a team official stated.
The training camp in Nanning will last one month and include Nguyen Huy Hoang along with 14 other key swimmers, such as Pham Thanh Bao, Tran Hung Nguyen, and Vo Thi My Tien. The team is expected to return to Vietnam in early December before traveling directly to Thailand for competition.
Although the specific events Hoang will compete in at the SEA Games 33 have not yet been revealed, expectations remain high for the Quang Tri-born swimmer, who has been a consistent medal contender at both continental and regional levels.
At the SEA Games 32 in Cambodia, Hoang captured three gold medals (400m freestyle, 1,500m freestyle, and men’s 4x200m freestyle relay) and one bronze (200m freestyle). His performances reaffirmed his dominance as Southeast Asia’s best long-distance swimmer.
Earlier this year, Hoang represented Vietnam at the World Aquatics Championships, the Asian Swimming Championships, and the Southeast Asian Open Water Championships 2025. Notably, he made history by becoming the first Vietnamese male swimmer to win gold at the Asian Championships, securing titles in both the 800m and 1,500m freestyle, along with a silver in the 400m freestyle.
The Vietnam Swimming Federation views the upcoming camp in China as a crucial opportunity for Hoang to refine his endurance, speed, and technique under elite training conditions. With just weeks left before the SEA Games 33, the focus will be on ensuring Vietnam’s top swimmer maintains top form to continue his record-breaking success on the regional stage.
