South Korea, 7 November 2025 – Vietnam’s top badminton star Nguyen Thuy Linh continued her remarkable form at the Korea Masters 2025, defeating South Korean player Lee So Yul 2-0 (21-12, 23-21) to advance to the semifinals of the women’s singles event.
Vietnam’s number one badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh booked her place in the semifinals of the Korea Masters 2025 after a commanding straight-game victory over host nation player Lee So Yul on November 7. The match lasted just 36 minutes, with Thuy Linh showcasing her superior technique and mental strength throughout.
As the No. 2 seed and world No. 24, Thuy Linh entered the quarterfinals as the clear favorite against Lee So Yul, ranked No. 110 in the world. From the opening rallies, the Vietnamese star displayed sharp control and precise shuttle placement, forcing her 22-year-old opponent into constant defensive movement. Her consistent attacks down the lines and at the corners helped her dominate the first game 21-12.
In the second game, the Korean player fought back strongly, racing to an early 5-2 lead. However, Thuy Linh’s patience and resilience soon shifted the momentum. Both players exchanged points in a tense and thrilling mid-game battle, with Lee temporarily pulling ahead 17-12 as Thuy Linh made several unforced errors.
Facing four game points at 16-20, Thuy Linh mounted an incredible comeback, saving them all with calm precision before turning the score around to 23-21, sealing a dramatic straight-game victory and a place in the semifinals.
With this win, Nguyen Thuy Linh advances to the semifinals of the BWF World Tour Super 300 Korea Masters, where she will face the winner between Pitchamon Opaniputh (Thailand, world No. 37) and Hina Akechi (Japan, world No. 57).
Born in Phu Tho in 1997, Nguyen Thuy Linh has long been Vietnam’s top female shuttler, known for her consistency and technical finesse. She has won eight consecutive national titles, three straight Vietnam Open championships, and represented Vietnam at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Korea Masters 2025, held in Iksan, South Korea, is part of the BWF World Tour Super 300 series, offering 7,000 ranking points for the champion and a total prize pool of USD 240,000.
