SEA Games 33 diary: Security tightens ahead of SEA Games 33 opening ceremony

Bangkok, 9 December 2025 – With the SEA Games 33 opening ceremony set for 7 p.m. tonight (9 December), Thai authorities have significantly increased police and security forces in and around the Hua Mak Sports Complex to ensure absolute safety for the region’s largest sporting event.

Ten hours before the opening ceremony of SEA Games 33, Thailand reinforced police and security personnel across both the interior and exterior zones of the Hua Mak Sports Complex in Bangkok. The heightened measures reflect the host nation’s determination to deliver a safe, smooth, and impressive start to Southeast Asia’s biggest sporting festival.

According to the schedule, the opening ceremony will officially begin at 7 p.m. tonight at Rajamangala Stadium, the heart of the Hua Mak complex. With tens of thousands of spectators, delegations from all 11 participating nations, and numerous dignitaries and international guests expected to attend, Thailand has mobilized maximum security resources to prevent any potential risks and ensure the ceremony unfolds perfectly.

Along the main routes leading into the sports complex — especially surrounding Rajamangala Stadium — security checkpoints have been set up densely. Police vehicles patrol continuously to monitor the situation, while traffic has been rerouted to form a secure perimeter around the venue. Specialized bomb-disposal units, a familiar presence at major national events, have also been deployed within the Hua Mak area to further strengthen safety protocols.

At the main entrance to Rajamangala Stadium on Soi Ramkhamhaeng 24, a place where residents and journalists usually pass freely, security fences and stationed officers now strictly control access. Anyone wishing to send items inside must wait for authorized personnel from within the complex to come out and receive them.

Security has also been heightened at the media center located in Zone W7 of Rajamangala Stadium. Journalists must go through additional screening, including X-ray scanners, before being allowed to enter and carry out coverage duties.

A member of the SEA Games 33 Organizing Committee emphasized that security remains the top priority, particularly when it comes to protecting the participating sports delegations throughout the entire event. The reinforced measures underscore Thailand’s commitment to hosting a safe, orderly, and memorable opening ceremony for SEA Games 33.
