Bangkok, 10 December 2025 – On the first official competition day of SEA Games 33, Vietnam secured its opening medal when Phung Thi Hong Ngoc and Nguyen Ngoc Bich earned bronze in the women’s Jiu-jitsu Duo Show event.
Vietnam’s athletes stepped into the first full day of competition at SEA Games 33 on 10 December with strong determination across multiple key events, and the delegation did not have to wait long for its first success. In the women’s Jiu-jitsu Duo Show discipline, the pair of Phung Thi Hong Ngoc and Nguyen Ngoc Bich delivered a poised and technically solid performance to bring home Vietnam’s first medal of the Games — a bronze.
Competing against strong rivals, especially from host nation Thailand, the Vietnamese duo posted a score of 47.5 points. This result placed them behind Thailand 1 (50.5 points) and Thailand 2 (48.5 points), who secured gold and silver respectively. The bronze marked a meaningful milestone for Vietnam on the opening day, setting a positive tone for the delegation’s medal ambitions in Bangkok and Chonburi.
Speaking after their performance, both Hong Ngoc and Ngoc Bich shared the pride of contributing the first achievement for the national team at SEA Games 33.
“We are very happy to win the first medal for Vietnam,” they said. “This is only day one and we earned a bronze, but we will continue to work hard in the coming days to fight for even better results.”
With many strong events lined up, Vietnam hopes this early success will create momentum as other teams continue their campaigns on the opening days of the regional multi-sport event.
