Vietnam sports delegation depart for ASEAN Para Games 13

Hanoi, 15 January 2026 – The leadership of the Vietnam Sports Administration, together with representatives of Vietnam Airlines, solemnly held a farewell ceremony for the Vietnam National Para Sports Team before their departure to compete at the. ASEAN Para Games 13 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

The send-off ceremony took place at 7:30 a.m. on January 15 at Island A, Terminal T2, drawing attention from sports authorities, partner organizations, and a large number of athletes’ family members.

Representing the Vietnam Sports Administration, Director General Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet attended the event alongside leaders from the Department of Sport for All, the Planning and Finance Department, the Organization and Personnel Department, and the Administration Office to encourage and see off the delegation. On behalf of Vietnam Airlines, Phan Nguyen Hong, Deputy Head of the Commercial Department, together with company officials, presented flowers and conveyed their best wishes for a safe and confident journey.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet expressed strong confidence in the delegation ahead of the competition. “Each athlete competes with a strong spirit, pride, and unwavering determination. For you, every contest is not only a test of physical ability but also a journey of overcoming yourselves—where personal victory is always respected and cherished,” he said.

Alongside domestic preparations, under Decision No. 08/QD-TDTTVN dated January 7, 2026, the Vietnam Sports Administration dispatched a preliminary working delegation to Thailand to attend the ASEAN Para Games 13 confirmation meetings held from January 12 to 15, 2026. At the meetings, the Vietnamese delegation worked closely with the Organizing Committee to review athlete registrations, technical matters, accommodation, and transportation arrangements.

Vietnam will attend ASEAN Para Games 13 with a delegation of approximately 185 members, including more than 140 athletes competing in 11 sports: athletics, swimming, powerlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo, boccia, archery, wheelchair tennis, and wheelchair fencing. The team has been carefully selected and intensively trained, ready for the upcoming competitions.

Training and competition schedules have been finalized in line with official technical documents. Athlete classification is scheduled for January 17–19, 2026. Accreditation has been completed, with 184 passes issued to delegation members. The Organizing Committee has also confirmed accommodation, transportation, volunteer support, and key ceremonial activities of the Games.

ASEAN Para Games 13 will take place from January 15 to 26, 2026, featuring 19 sports and 536 medal events, with delegations from across Southeast Asia. Vietnam has set a target of winning between 40 and 50 gold medals, aiming to finish among the top four or five nations in the region and continue affirming its position in Para sports.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for January 20, 2026, marking the start of a week of intense competition conducted in the spirit of sportsmanship, solidarity, and friendship.
