Coach Mai Duc Chung acknowledges challenges, determined to Lead Vietnam women’s team into the quarterfinals

Perth, 6 March 2026 – Coach Mai Duc Chung has acknowledged the challenges awaiting Vietnam Women’s National Team ahead of their upcoming match against Chinese Taipei, while reaffirming the team’s determination to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.

Following their 2–1 victory over India in the opening match, Vietnam have moved closer to advancing to the knockout stage. However, Mai Duc Chung believes the next game will be far from easy.

“We were fortunate to win the previous match. Tomorrow we will play at 12:00 PM Vietnam time, which will be a real test, and the opponent understands our team quite well. Playing in the afternoon conditions is not easy, but the team’s spirit is very positive. We hope to perform as we did in the last match and achieve the result we want,” the 74-year-old coach said during the pre-match press conference.

He also predicted that Chinese Taipei could adopt a more aggressive approach after losing their opening game. According to Mai Duc Chung, the opponent may push forward more and play with greater intensity in this crucial encounter.

“Each team adjusts its tactics depending on the opponent. Since they lost their first match, I believe they may play more offensively and with greater determination this time,” he explained.

Another victory would bring Vietnam significantly closer to the quarterfinals, but the veteran coach stressed the importance of maintaining full concentration.

“In this group we must continue fighting to move forward. The team needs to stay focused and give maximum effort if we want to progress further in the tournament,” Mai Duc Chung emphasized.

Meanwhile, Chinese Taipei head coach Prasobchoke Chokemor also expressed his determination to help his team bounce back after their 0–2 defeat to Japan.

“After a loss, our goal is to recover and respond positively. The key now is to stay strong mentally, maintain belief, and approach the next match with confidence,” he said.

According to the schedule, the match between Vietnam Women’s National Team and Chinese Taipei Women’s National Team will kick off at 12:00 PM on March 7.
