Coach Kim Sang Sik unveils new strike options with Hoang Hen & Xuan Son

Hanoi, 25 March 2026 – Coach Kim Sang Sik has revealed that he has multiple tactical options to utilize Hoang Hen and Xuan Son in Vietnam’s upcoming matches against Bangladesh and Malaysia.

“I’m really looking forward to the contributions of new players, especially Hoang Hen. The team is preparing well to bring joy to our fans. I’m happy he’s finally getting his chance with the national team after proving himself in V.League 1,” coach Kim said.

After five years of development, Hoang Hen has established his quality. The Korean coach emphasized that the midfielder offers flexibility in attack, with several ways to create scoring opportunities. “Watching him train and play recently, I see many options to use him in the attacking line,” he added.

Kim is particularly excited about the potential partnership between Hoang Hen and Xuan Son. “I can deploy them as a two-striker pairing, or use one centrally and the other on the wing. Xuan Son has just recovered from a minor injury, so we are carefully managing his condition to ensure he performs at his best,” he explained.

Vietnam also welcome back key defenders Doan Van Hau and Tran Dinh Trong after long injury layoffs. Kim noted that both players have regained strong form in V.League 1 and will significantly strengthen the team’s defense, while also increasing internal competition.

Speaking about the upcoming friendly, Kim warned that Bangladesh are no longer an easy opponent. “They’ve changed a lot compared to last year, with new coaching staff and more overseas-based players. I know Hamza Choudhury—he’s playing in England. We’re analyzing his gameplay to prepare solutions. Our goal is still to win.”

Defender Do Duy Manh echoed the determination: “Even though it’s a friendly, we take it seriously because it affects our FIFA ranking. Hoang Hen has shown great form, and his call-up is well deserved.”

Vietnam will face Bangladesh at 19:00 on March 26 at Hang Day Stadium in Hanoi.
