Vietnam futsal begins its journey to chase the Southeast Asian championship title

Ho Chi Minh City, 30 March 2026 – On March 30, the Vietnam national futsal team departed for Thailand to compete in the 2026 AFF Futsal Championship, which will take place from April 6 to 12 in Nonthaburi.

Before departure, coach Diego Giustozzi trimmed the squad to 15 players. According to the plan, the coaching staff will continue evaluating and finalizing the official 14-man squad one day before the opening match against the Myanmar futsal team.

In this year’s tournament, Vietnam is placed in Group A alongside Myanmar, Timor-Leste, and host Thailand. Among them, Thailand is considered the strongest opponent in the group and a leading title contender.

To prepare for the competition, the Vietnam futsal team gathered from March 16 in Ho Chi Minh City, implementing a training program focused on improving fitness, refining tactics, and reviewing the squad. Coach Diego Giustozzi stated that the coaching staff is gradually rejuvenating the team, aiming toward long-term goals for Vietnam futsal.

“We need to give opportunities to young players. For example, Thac Hieu has performed well with the national U19 team. We have about two years to prepare for the 2028 Asian tournament, with the important goal of qualifying for the World Cup. Therefore, this is the right time for young players to gradually gain experience and develop within the Vietnam futsal national team,” coach Diego Giustozzi shared.
