Vietnam futsal team cruise past Timor-Leste

Thailand, 7 April 2026 – Vietnam national futsal team secured a dominant victory over Timor-Leste in their second Group A match at the 2026 ASEAN Futsal Championship.

Carrying strong momentum from their opening win, Vietnam entered the match with complete control. From the very first minutes, the side coached by Diego Giustozzi imposed relentless pressure, pinning their opponents deep in their own half. The gap in quality quickly became evident, with well-organized attacking routines and set pieces proving especially effective in breaking down Timor-Leste’s defense.

Vietnam needed just three minutes to open the scoring, as Tu Minh Quang capitalized on a well-worked sideline routine to fire a precise shot past the goalkeeper. The same pattern was repeated in the 5th minute, when another cleverly designed set play found Nguyen Thinh Phat, who drilled a low shot into the net to make it 2-0.

As the game progressed, Giustozzi’s players showed sharp awareness in exploiting defensive mistakes. In the 12th minute, under pressure from Chau Doan Phat, Timor-Leste’s defense lost possession, allowing Nguyen Da Hai to finish delicately and extend the lead to 3-0. Just seconds before halftime, Tran Quang Nguyen reacted quickest to tap in from close range after a series of attacking efforts, giving Vietnam a comfortable 4-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, Vietnam maintained their focus and intensity. They added three more goals through Dinh Cong Vien, Trinh Cong Dai, and Nguyen Thac Hieu to further underline their dominance.

Late in the match, Timor-Leste managed to score a consolation goal, reducing the deficit to 1-7, which remained the final score.

This result marked Vietnam’s second consecutive win in the group stage of the 2026 ASEAN Futsal Championship, following their 4-0 victory over Myanmar in the opening match. With this strong performance, Vietnam have moved closer to securing a place in the semifinals.

In their final group match, Vietnam will face hosts Thailand at 20:00 on April 8.
